On 5th February All-Star Gala was organized in the capital, Budapest. Nik Raivio was invited to the import players' team.
He writes about his experiences.
What was the audience like? The arena where we played the All-Star Gala in Budapest wasn't very big but was packed with fans. I got the there around 14:00 and before players went on the floor to warm up the seats were already full and fans were on the court interacting with the players. The crowd had a lot of energy and would get real exicted whenever someone would dunk or make a tough shot. They had a lot of dance performances and activities going on during every timeout so the fans were pretty energetic the whole game. What did you think of the opposite team? The opposite team was made up of what I was told was the national team minus the players from Szolnok. I saw a lot of familiar faces and went up against a lot of the same guys who I've seen during the course of this season. If they would have had the Szolnok guys and some of the other Hungarians playing abroad in Europe it would have been more competitive but it was a good chance to interact with the fans and get to be around and catch up with a new group of Americans.
Who do I think is the best Hungarian player? It's tough to say since several of the national team members weren't there but I've been impressed with Keller from Albacomp. He's pretty explosive around the hoop, can shoot the ball and moves well for his size. There are also some younger players who I think have a chance to be real good as well.
What were your expectations and results? It was my first time driving to Budapest by myself and I had some car troubles driving through the snow. Finding the gym and arriving on time was the only thing on my mind. Once I finally found the gym my expectations were to just enjoy the moment, enjoy my teammates for the day and try to help make the game enjoyable for everyone watching. The game was made up of almost all highlight plays and dunks so there wasn't a whole lot of focus on defense. Our imports team ending up winning by about 40 points. We had 12 players so coach did a lot of substituting but mainly stuck with the veteran group for the majority of the game. I had fun, we won and I played well with the minutes I was given so it was a positive experience. I still haven't gotten a chance to explore Budapest but after driving by some of the shopping stores and restaurants I'm going to have to set aside a whole weekend to check it out!
After the news that Josh Wilson leaves Kaposvár, the Club started to find his immediate replacement, and so we found Kwadzo Ahelegbe from the German Bundesliga
Where was Nik on holiday, what are his experiences in Hungary, likes and dislikes and so on. If you have any other questions to any of the players, you can write it in the Comments part (Hozzászólások) under the article, and next time they will talk of it!
